BUFFALO, N.Y. — A fifth round of layoffs has been made at Tesla's Buffalo operations, bringing the total jobs lost here to 346.
A Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notice was filed with the state for 27 workers — 26 at the South Park Avenue Gigafactory and one at the service center across the street.
According to the notice, Tesla (Nasdaq: TSLA) now has a Buffalo workforce of 2,032. It needs to maintain at least 1,460 workers at the state-built facility to stay in compliance with its agreement with Empire State Development.
Tesla layoffs in Buffalo
- On April 27, news broke that Tesla planned to lay off 285 Buffalo workers.
- On May 2, another round of layoffs was announced, this one affecting an additional 26 employees.
- On May 8, the layoff of five employees was announced.
- And on May 9, the layoff of three employees was announced.
The local layoffs are the result of the electric vehicle company's decision to reduce its global workforce by 10%, or 14,000 of its 140,000 employees. The company’s sales and revenue dropped 9% in the first quarter of the year compared to the first quarter last year.
