Sugar company to buy another 10 acres in Lackawanna

LACKAWANNA, N.Y. — A sugar company that built a refinery on the former Bethlehem Steel site is planning another expansion in Lackawanna.

Sucro Limited (TSX-V: SUG) reached an agreement with the Erie County Industrial Land Development Corp. to purchase 9.98 acres — at $55,000 per acre, which is about $549,000 — next to its refinery at the Renaissance Commerce Park.

Sucro plans to build a 126,000-square-foot warehouse and distribution facility on the site that’s adjacent to the 12.3 acres the company already has there, according to a news release from the ILDC. The expansion is expected to add 25 jobs.

The ILDC will expand sewer and water infrastructure to the site, and Sucro is expected to close on the deal later this year.
