Hotel developer files $1M counterclaim against former partner

Three weeks after being sued by a former partner, a developer working to reopen the Hotel Niagara has filed a counter claim.

NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. — Three weeks after being sued by a former partner, a developer working to reopen the Hotel Niagara has filed a counter claim seeking damages of $1 million and a jury trial.

In a counter-complaint filed July 22 with New York State Supreme Court in Niagara County, Brine Wells Development LLC denied multiple allegations from Merani Hotel Group and owner Faisal Merani related to the downtown Niagara Falls hotel.

The counter-complaint from developer Edward Riley, Brine Wells and Hotel Niagara Development LLC pointed to Merani’s failure to move the project forward and interfering with its business relationships and ultimately jeopardizing the project.
