BUFFALO, N.Y. — Buffalo’s restaurant scene has lost a giant.

Henry Gorino, former owner of Oliver’s and the founder of Siena, died Oct. 30 at 72 after a brief hospice stay.

He leaves behind a lengthy legacy that included mentorship of some of the region’s most well-known chefs, who eventually went on to open restaurants of their own. Among them are Mike Andrzejewski of the former Seabar; Mark Hutchinson of Hutch’s; Paul Jenkins from Remington Tavern; Mark Weatherbee from Root 5 and Left Bank; Brian Mietus of Bacchus; and Eric Nessa of Ristorante Lombardo’s and Park Country Club.
