BUFFALO, N.Y. — A debt settlement company with an Amherst office is cutting all of its workers this month amid an ongoing lawsuit.
Strategic Financial Solutions notified the state that it plans to lay off all 838 of its employees, according to a recently filed Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification.
The company, which is based in New York City and came to Amherst several years ago. It was sued early this year by the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and seven state attorneys general for allegedly “running an illegal debt-relief enterprise" that fraudulently obtained more than $100 million from consumers, according to a CFPB press release.
