AMHERST, N.Y. — Changes could be coming to proposed plans for the Amherst Commerce Center, which includes Buffalo’s first Costco location.

Property owner Benderson Development is seeking a modification of site plan approval for the project, located on nearly 62 acres of land between North Bailey Avenue, Meyer Road and the I-290. The proposal is part of the Amherst Planning Board’s agenda for tonight’s meeting.

Potential changes, based on documents submitted to the Planning Board, include:

  • Relocating the Costco fueling station from an area adjacent to North Bailey Avenue to the rear of the site, adjacent to the I-290
  • Modifying Dick’s House of Sport from a one-story building to a two-story structure. The square footage would total 119,115 square feet, plus an 18,516-square-foot sports field
  • Modifying the Costco footprint. The site would include a 164,576-square-foot building with a fueling facility with eight pumps and 16 fueling locations.
  • Associated changes to drainage, landscaping and parking

The project initially got Planning Board approval in August 2023. The proposal also includes a 109,500-square-foot warehouse building for Delta Sonic Car Wash Systems.
