BUFFALO, N.Y. — Chautauqua Institution is planning $20 million in renovations to make its Athenaeum Hotel a year-round destination as part of a major capital campaign.

Plans for the 142-year-old hotel include weatherization updates and improvements to common areas and second-floor guest rooms that will improve longterm maintenance, while creating revenue opportunities beyond the existing season, which generally begins in late spring and runs through early fall.

“Being able to expand into those shoulder months and make use of the public spaces during the holidays and even in those earlier months to make it a more comfortable space with weatherization (upgrades) will improve the events we already have too,” said Brittany Beckstrom, senior director for Athenaeum Hotel operations.
