New restaurant to take over former Morton's Steakhouse space at Hyatt

Four years after the closing of Morton’s Steakhouse at the Hyatt Regency Buffalo, a new full-service restaurant will open this spring.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Four years after the closing of Morton’s Steakhouse at the Hyatt Regency Buffalo, a new full-service restaurant will open this spring.

Johnny D’s is planned for the space, which underwent a complete overhaul two years ago and also previously housed E.B. Green’s Steakhouse.

Chris Harter, a former executive with Delaware North, will own the restaurant business through a lease deal with Douglas Development. That’s after a previous plan in 2022 to co-develop a steakhouse together fell apart.

“We got close, but just weren’t able to finalize a deal. At the same time, I got a pretty good offer with a group in Atlanta, but I kept in touch with Douglas (Jemal) and we were able to come to a deal,” he said. “I wanted to come back. … During my time with Delaware North, I really came to love Buffalo.”
