A coffee shop in Downtown Buffalo is expanding

The expansions are contingent on a special use permit as a tavern under consideration by the City of Buffalo and liquor license approvals from the state.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — A new coffee shop downtown is expanding its hours and menu.

Penny’s Coffee Shop opened for breakfast and lunch in July at 916 Main St. adjacent to the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus with international offerings that include Turkish-style coffee and Georgian khachapuri cheese bread as well as bagels and muffins.

Now, owners Lasha Takalandze and his wife Megi Endeladze are adding a beer and wine license so they can offer wines in the style of those from the country of Georgia. That could include carrying a dry red Saperavi made by Chauteau Niagara Winery in Newfane or a dry white called Rkatsiteli made by Dr. Konstantin Frank Winery in the Finger Lakes.

“We wanted to introduce an ancient Georgian-style wine that dates back thousands of years,” said Takalandze, who along with his wife have Georgian roots. “It’s made by a local winemaker from Georgia we know from our Georgian friends. We would love to introduce that here.”
