BUFFALO, N.Y. — Despite economic challenges that has made life tougher for developers, Douglas Jemal's ambitious plan to build a neighborhood in downtown Buffalo is moving forward — one step at a time.
Jemal envisions the Electric District as a dense downtown community consisting of at least 450 apartments alongside retail, restaurant and office space centered around the former Simon Electric properties on and around Ellicott Street.
The project will be done in phases. Work will begin soon on the first, centered on the Burns Building, a six-story former office at 32 E. Huron.
