HAMBURG, N.Y. — As it works to expand with a second location, a Hamburg barbecue restaurant is using a different type of investment strategy.
Yankee BBQ has identified more than 150 investors, each committing at least $100, to help fund a $100,000 expansion. Owner Brian Nagy is using the Honeycomb Credit crowdfunding platform, which he said gives his customers a chance to help play a role in the expansion.
“I’ve already got some money secured, but we need more,” he said. “It’s a community thing. The people who come to your restaurant have an opportunity to throw some money at it. Instead of a regular GoFundMe, you’re getting paid back. It turns into a loan with interest.”
