University's $7M solar project nears completion

The $7 million, 4-megawatt solar project that was recently installed on Niagara University’s campus is nearly complete.

NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. — The $7 million, four-megawatt solar project that was recently installed on Niagara University’s campus is nearly complete.

After more than two years working on the project, the university and its partners expect the 7,500 solar panels to be operational later this summer.

“Everybody is anxious to see it up and running,” said Daniel McMann, director of operations at Niagara. “This was a significant commitment to reducing our energy consumption, and it will reduce carbon emissions around 23,000 tons over the first 10 years.”

The solar panel system, he said, will put power back into the grid and reduce Niagara University’s costs by about $2.2 million over 25 years through energy credits.
