TONAWANDA, N.Y. — An indoor pickleball facility and fitness center could be coming soon to a warehouse in Tonawanda.
Dietician and fitness trainer Chris Cammarata has received permission from town planning officials to convert the 20,000-square-foot warehouse at 225 Fire Tower Drive into a sports facility. Cammarata said he's finalizing his lease of the space with property owner Peak Development LLC.
"The idea here is to build a community where we can have people basically do all aspects of fitness," Cammarata said.
The centerpiece of the gym will be five or six full-size pickleball courts.
"Pickleball is huge right now," Cammarata said. "I picked it up in 2020 and loved it, and I thought, 'This sport is going to go crazy' — and of course it has."
