Roswell Park renewed for national designation, multimillion-dollar grant

The comprehensive cancer center expects to receive at least $22 million as part of the renewal of its National Cancer Institute designation.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center expects to receive at least $22 million as part of the renewal of its National Cancer Institute designation.

The renewal for the cancer center support grant brings both dollars and cache for the Buffalo site, which is among just 57 NCI-designated as comprehensive cancer center facilities across the country and the only one in New York outside of the metro-Manhattan region. It is also one of just 30 members of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network

Though the amount of the new grant has not yet been finalized by NCI, Roswell park officials anticipate it will be significant, with the organization receiving the "exceptional" rating — the highest possible score in the 50-year-old NCI program. Roswell Park has successfully competed for the grant 13 times since 1972, more than any other cancer center. The achievement follows an in-depth review by cancer experts from around the country.
