ROCHESTER, N.Y. — A Rochester business owner has been accused of running a check-kiting scheme and defrauding Five Star Bank of $18.9 million, according to a civil lawsuit filed March 11 in federal court.
Katherine Mott and Robert Harris own several restaurants, wedding venues and related businesses in the Rochester area. Though Five Star's lawsuit names both as defendants, it singles out Mott as having "sole control over the management and financial affairs of each entity," according to the complaint.
The parent company, Financial Institutions Inc., announced the loss of $18.9 million in a filing on March 11 with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.
