Owners of soon-to-be-vacant Highmark building share renovation plans

The eight-story building will be empty by August when anchor tenant Highmark Western and Northeastern New York moves to Seneca One Tower.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — The owners of 257 W. Genesee St. know that filling one of Buffalo's largest office buildings will take flexibility and patience.

The eight-story building will be empty by August when anchor tenant Highmark Western and Northeastern New York moves to Seneca One Tower.

Orion Office REIT, the Phoenix-based trust that owns the building, is planning a multi-million dollar investment to spruce up the space and make it appealing for a new generation of tenants.

This will involve marketing the building to many midsize tenants. It's unlikely another huge employer will swoop in to lease the entire space, according to Kieran McGee, vice president of Orion Office.
