BUFFALO, N.Y. — Nearly two years ago, federal officials announced plans for a $1 billion hospital in Buffalo to replace the VA Western New York Healthcare System site on Bailey Avenue.
The region was to see a series of updates as part of national restructuring recommended by the VA Asset and Infrastructure Review Commission:
• A rightsized hospital in Buffalo near the downtown medical corridor with inpatient medical and surgical facilities, inpatient mental health and emergency department plus a nursing home and residential rehab services.
• Expanded outpatient services in Batavia, including the creation of a post-traumatic stress disorder hub for the region.
