BUFFALO, N.Y. — For more than a decade, the leaders of Peaceprints of WNY dreamed of turning a long-vacant church on Clinton Street into a housing facility.
"We were holding out hope until very, very recently that we could keep the shell of the building," said Christian Holdridge, director of development for the nonprofit.
That hope faded as it became increasingly clear that the 115-year-old church building at 807 Clinton St. was not only beyond repair, but an active safety hazard.
A hole in the roof and damaged supporting walls left the building in "imminent danger of collapse," according to a demolition application Peaceprints submitted to the City of Buffalo Preservation Board.
