Buffalo State University faculty have less than a month to decide if they’re going to take the retirement incentives in the voluntary separation program.
Buffalo State on Thursday shared its new plan to combat the university's $16.5 million structural deficit.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Buffalo State University faculty have less than a month to decide if they’re going to take the retirement incentives in the voluntary separation program the university announced last week.

In her address to the college’s faculty and staff, Interim President Bonita Durand said the Buffalo State Foundation will fund the one-time payout to full-time, retirement-eligible employees.

“We do have some projected numbers, but we’ll know more definitely by mid-July who’s going to take it,” Durand said during an interview last week. “Sometimes faculty and staff can’t be incentivized because of money — this is their home, this is their livelihood, and this is their work. But we do think the VSP will help us get our workforce to where it should be.”
