BUFFALO, N.Y. — Buffalo has dropped a bit in the rankings, but we're still in a pretty good place on U.S. News and World Report's 2024-25 Best Places to Live: No. 34 out of 150.
The new No. 1 is Naples, Florida, which last year came in at No. 6 on the list comparing 150 metros in the United States on value, desirability, job market and quality of life. The previous No. 1 — Green Bay, Wisconsin — dropped to No. 12.
In last year's list, Buffalo ranked at No. 27 — but the drop to 34 may have less to do with Buffalo and more to do with a change to the way U.S. News calculates its scores.
U.S. News moved from metro-based data to using city-based data, the organization said in a news release, and adjusted its scoring to emphasize value and the local job market. As a result, cities in the South leapt up into the top 10, and the top 25 became dominated by the Southeast and Midwest.
