LANCASTER, New York — A longtime Lancaster restaurant will serve its last set of barbecue ribs in the dining room on Nov. 24, with the bar/restaurant closing for good the night before Thanksgiving.

Al-E-Oops has operated from 5389 Genesee St. just over 40 years, since owner/founder/chef Kevin McGowan opened the business with his late father, Gerald. The closing comes one year after the building itself celebrated its 200th anniversary with past lives as a general store and stage coach stop.

McGowan has spent his entire adult life at the building, often working 13- to 15-hour days cooking breakfast, lunch and dinner. Much of that time was spent with family, who also worked at the restaurant, including his mother Patricia and brother Timothy. Now 62, he’s ready to retire.
