BUFFALO, N.Y. — It's been nearly a year since workers broke ground on a planned Hispanic Heritage Cultural Institute at 462 Niagara St., but construction progress has been slow.
The Hispanic Heritage Council of Western New York is still trying to close an $8 million financing gap to ensure the project can be finished.
Foundation work was completed last month. Council Founder and President Casimiro Rodriguez said he hopes to see the shell of the building start rising this fall. The team is just putting work on the core and shell out to bid, and will get bids back in late September.
Rodriguez said on Monday that in October, they will have an updated estimate for the construction cost and that work is underway to come up with a financing plan to fill the $8-million funding gap.
