AMHERST, New York — Sewer updates with an eight-figure price tag could present a sizable hurdle for plans to redevelop Eastern Hills Mall.
Erie County completed this summer a sanitary sewer service evaluation report for the Transit Road corridor, which includes the mall site. To meet the corridor’s needs for sewer capacity, the report outlined a 10-year, multi-project plan for updates that are projected to cost $29.6 million. And that’s in 2023 dollars. With inflation, the price tag could go up.
That’s a multi-million-dollar challenge for Uniland Development Co.’s proposed plan for the site: a mixed-use makeover that includes office, residential, medial, shopping, dining, recreational and civic areas. The about 100-acre campus would be a village-like, walkable destination that could be a huge win for Clarence and the region.
