Local businesses won awards in three different categories: Small, medium, and large-sized business. Organizers said it is important to build ethics in the community.

Alison Romanowski, treasurer of the Buffalo Niagara Business Ethics Association, talked about why the annual event is so important in Western New York.

"It shows them the way to lead," Romanowski said. "It encourages leaders, it encourages their employees to do the right thing, so you know it's not just going to happen at different levels. It's going to happen throughout and permeate through the organization."
