City of Buffalo extends deadline for paying property taxes

On Saturday, Mayor Byron Brown and Common Council President Darius Pridgen announced an extension of the second installment of the city property tax payments.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Buffalo residents are getting extra time to pay their property taxes because of the blizzard.

On Saturday, Mayor Byron Brown and Common Council President Darius Pridgen announced an extension of the second installment of the city property tax payments, and the assessment grievance period deadline.

The new deadline is Jan. 13.

“As the City residents continue to recover following this historic storm, we do not want to penalize or add further difficulties to residents. This extension is important to allow our property owners additional time to take care of these business matters. I thank Common Council President Darius Pridgen and the members of the Common Council for patterning with me to help alleviate the pressure on City residents,” Brown said.

“Following the Blizzard of ‘22, we must explore all means to help our community heal and recover. City government can help by extending these deadlines to not put additional burdens on taxpayers during this difficult time. I appreciate my partners in government for their support in this critical measure,” Pridgen said.

The tax deadline was able to be pushed back because of states of emergencies that were declared by Gov. Kathy Hochul and Brown.

Taxes can be paid online or at City Hall. People who are filing grievances need to ensure those will be received by Friday, Jan. 13.
