BUFFALO, N.Y. — The national average for gas has gone down 3 cents from last Monday, putting the price at the pump to $3.62.
One year ago, the price was $3.54. The New York State average is $3.72, down one cent from one week ago. One year ago, the NYS average was also $3.67. AAA Western and Central New York (AAA WCNY) reports the following averages:
- Batavia - $3.63 (no change from last Monday)
- Buffalo - $3.66 (up 1 cent from last Monday)
- Elmira - $3.60 (down 4 cents from last Monday)
- Ithaca - $3.70 (no change from last Monday)
- Rochester - $3.69 (no change from last Monday)
- Rome - $3.75 (no change from last Monday)
- Syracuse - $3.69 (down 1 cent from last Monday)
- Watertown - $3.76 (down 1 cent from last Monday)
In April there was a big rise in gas prices but the month of May has seen a decrease.
According to AAA "Oil prices remain in the $78 to $82 a barrel range, showing little movement from a week ago, and that has helped gas prices stabilize. In addition, according to new data from the Energy Information Administration (EIA), gas demand rose only slightly last week, while the overall supply of gasoline also inched up. Moderate demand, ample supply, and steady oil prices are the recipe for quiet moves at the pump and could see prices remain relatively flat ahead of the Memorial Day weekend."
They also said that "Diesel prices are moving down. The national average price for diesel is $3.93, down four cents from last Monday. The New York average is $4.38, down one cent from a week ago."
