WNY native, retired Rear Admiral Danelle Barrett dies after fight with cancer

One of the first 100 female flag officers in the Navy, Rear Admiral Danelle Marie Barrett has passed away after a long battle with cancer.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Western New York native and retired Navy Rear Admiral Danelle Marie Barrett passed away from a long battle against glioblastoma cancer on August 26.

Barrett, who was profiled on 2 On Your Side's Most Buffalo back in 2021, was born in Buffalo on July 20, 1967.

She lived in Hamburg until she attended college and joined the U.S. Navy.

Barrett was one of the first 100 female flag officers in the Navy, most notably serving as Director of Current Operations at U.S. Cyber Command, Navy Cyber Security Division Director, and Deputy Chief Information Officer on the staff of the Chief of Naval Operations.
