ERIE COUNTY, N.Y. — In an adorable post made to the Erie County Sheriff's Office Facebook page on Tuesday night, they shared the exciting news of one of their furry friends recent graduations.
The post's caption read "Today, Suki-Lou graduated from the “Pups at the Pen” program at the Erie County Correctional Facility. The six week program works with the SPCA and the Community Reintegration Program and trains dogs in basic commands and prepares them for adoption. Suki-Lou was adopted on graduation day and is headed home with her new owner!"
'Pups at the Pen' is a program between the Erie County Sheriff's Office and the SPCA serving Erie County. The program first began in 2016, and was created with the hope that selected inmates could be paired with a shelter dog to help give them socialization skills and training.
Since its start the program has had more than 70 dogs trained by inmates, and graduated into their forever families homes.
