HAMBURG, N.Y. — If you haven't found yourself a valentine quite yet, it's not too late.
The "paw-lentine's" day adoption event was held at the McKinley Mall on Saturday afternoon. The inaugural event featured 20 local rescues who brought adoptable dogs and cats.
It was a chance to meet your next best friend, organizers told 2 On Your Side. They encourage people to reach out to rescue shelters and adopt throughout the year.
"There's so many dogs looking for homes right now," Samantha Robinson of Buffalo Underdogs Rescue said. "All of the shelters are so full, and we're just doing the best we can to try to get everybody out to meet new families and find new homes."
If you missed out on Saturday's event, the SPCA Serving Erie County is offering its own valentine adoption specials. From now until Feb. 19, the adoption fees for all animals aged one year or older are 50 percent off through the SPCA's Lonely Hearts Club.
