NORTH TONAWANDA, N.Y. — North Tonawanda hosted an inaugural Bills Watch Party.
It happened on Sunday as the Buffalo Bills took on the Seattle Seahawks. City of North Tonawanda Mayor Austin Tylec made the announcement Wednesday, ahead of the game, during a news conference.
"We are finding new ways to showcase our downtown area. We want to bring people in our community, and outside of our community, here to our downtown district," Mayor Tylec said.
Gates opened at 2 p.m. Sunday. Visitors enjoyed the pregame celebrations as they waited for kick off at 4:05 p.m.
People who attended enjoyed all kinds of activities. They had a pumpkin-carving contest, specials from local food vendors, giveaways, drinks and more.
Organizers said this was a family-friendly event. Jay Manno of Frankie Primo’s +39 said that "most of the businesses around here are very family-friendly, so it's going to be a really cool event."
"Webster Street will be closed from Sweeney Street to Tremont Street, transforming the area into a game day celebration zone. Two giant LED screens will broadcast all the action, ensuring fans won’t miss a second of the game. "
Tickets were available on Eventbrite.
A portion of the money raised will go to support the Patricia Allen Fund at the John R. Oishei Children’s Hospital in Buffalo.
This event is just the kickoff to other events in the future.
Manno said "the goal would be to add another block to the next one, whenever that may be. Hopefully it's the Super Bowl!"
