Mafia Boat Parade returns to Canalside

Organizers say the funds raised from this year's event will go towards the Firefighter Arno Memorial Foundation.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — The Mafia Boat Parade returned to Canalside this weekend.

Fans who took part in the annual event were, of course, decked out in Bills gear as a new NFL season fast approaches. Buffalo opens the season with a 1 p.m. kickoff on Sept. 8 against the Arizona Cardinals.

Organizers say the funds raised from this year's event will go towards the Firefighter Arno Memorial Foundation.

There was a pre-party from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday at Resurgence Brewery, at 55 Chicago St.

The boat party lineup started at noon Sunday, with the actual parade starting at 1 p.m. It ran until 3 p.m.

"The energy, the excitement every year, I just think it's through the roof, it's again through the roof. This is going to be a very exciting year," Therese Forton-Barnes of the Water Buffalo Club told 2 On Your Side on Sunday.
