A Western New York native is about to receive another big honor for his heroic actions that saved others during a mass shooting at Ford Hood a year ago.
Major Patrick Miller from Allegany was able to lead several others to safety during the shooting spree despite having been shot in the abdomen himself.
Two On Your Side learned Thursday that Miller will be presented with the Soldier's Award, which he says is the equivalent of the medal of Honor in peace time.
Miller says it's a humbling experience and one that he hopes can inspire others to be the best they can be.
"If this can serve as motivation or inspiration for them to say, hey I'm going to get better today, I'm going to get through this, then I'll do that 100 times out of 100, absolutely," said Maj. Miller.
That award will be presented by three-star Lieutenant General Brown on Monday at Fort Leavenworth in Kansas, where Miller is currently stationed.
