More than 300 turkeys given away in Buffalo ahead of Thanksgiving

The organizer of the giveaway says all of the turkeys were gone within less than an hour.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — More than 300 turkeys were given away Saturday at the Super Price Choppers store on Genesee Street in Buffalo.

The organizer of the giveaway reports all of the turkeys were gone within less than an hour.

"It felt good. I saw people coming to me crying, giving me hugs, telling me how they're going to fry, or bake, or roast, or smoke their turkeys, asking me if I want to come get a plate, thanking me and my family," community activist Stephon Wright told 2 On Your Side.

"So it was just a beautiful situation to know, before I even got there today, that the line was wrapped around not the building, but the corner. Over 200 to 300 people were in line to get turkeys today."

Wright started the drive seven years ago and says he doubled the amount of turkeys given out last year.
