Sabres kick off 'Turkeys for Tickets' drive

All the turkeys donated will directly benefit the Buffalo City Mission and FeedMore WNY. Last year, the drive collected over 4,000 turkeys.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — The holiday season is about giving back and on Wednesday, the Sabres want to show their appreciation to their generous fans.

The team partnered with Wegmans and Entercom Buffalo from 7 to 9 a.m. Wednesday. Fans who donate a 20 pound turkey, or the equivalent of a 20 pound turkey, will receive a voucher for two free tickets to select Sabres games.

"The holidays are a time to give back to others, and the return of the Turkeys for Tickets program allows us to do just that,” said Kevyn Adams, Buffalo Sabres senior vice president of business administration. “The generosity and support from Sabres fans allows our organization to help families in need around the Western New York community to have a happier Thanksgiving.”

Those who want to participate can drop off turkeys at three locations. The Amherst Wegmans, on Alberta Drive, the West Seneca Wegmans, on Orchard Park Road, or at the KeyBank Center surface lot on Baltimore Street.

All the turkeys donated will directly benefit the Buffalo City Mission and FeedMore WNY. Last year, the drive collected over 4,000 turkeys.

“We know this is a time of year when many families struggle to put food on the table,” said Michele Mehaffy, Wegmans manager of Buffalo consumer affairs. “Thanks to the Buffalo Sabres and their fans, this program helps fill a need, and allows families to come together to share a Thanksgiving meal.”

Vouchers were limited to one per person. Fans can buy additional seats for $25 when redeeming the voucher.
