Christmas tree arrives at Rockefeller Center in Manhattan

This year's Norway Spruce weighs 11 tons, is 74 feet tall, 43 feet wide, and is an annual attraction for anyone in New York City during the holiday season.

NEW YORK — Another sign of a fast-approaching holiday season happened Saturday, when the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree arrived in Manhattan.

This year's Norway Spruce weighs 11 tons, is 74 feet tall, 43 feet wide, and is an annual attraction for anyone in New York City during the holiday season. For the first time since 1959, the tree comes from West Stockbridge, Mass.

The tree was cut down Thursday morning and arrived in New York City on Saturday morning.

The tree will be decorated with more than 50,000 lights strung on about 5 miles of wire. The tree topper will be a 9-foot, 900-pound Swarovski star that will be covered in 3 million crystals.

The tree will be lit on Dec. 4, and it will be shown during a two-hour special live on NBC and Channel 2.
