DENVER — “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” has a new television home.

The Rankin-Bass claymation holiday special is set to return to NBC, the network where it debuted in 1964, leaving CBS after five decades.

“Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” will air on NBC on Friday, Dec. 6, the same date and network where it first debuted on Dec. 6, 1964.

"The classic animated special offers the perspective of Rudolph, who’s told he couldn’t play in any Reindeer Games due to his glowing nose," NBC said in a release. "Rudolph sets out on a fantastic journey where he meets Hermey the elf, prospector Yukon Cornelius and a host of Misfit Toys, all while trying to hide from the Abominable Snow Monster."

“Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” airs at 7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 6, with an encore presentation on Thursday, Dec. 12.

Other beloved animated specials airing on NBC this year include “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” and “Frosty the Snowman.” Those will air on NBC on Thursday, Dec. 5.
