BUFFALO, NY -- Buffalo's favorite polar bears have been reunited, just in time for their one-year "anniversary" - and Valentine's Day!
Luna and Sakari, two polar bears at the Buffalo Zoo, were separated in October as "denning season" began, so the two could get some personal space.
According to the Buffalo Zoo, polar bears are solitary animals and separation during denning season is "perfectly normal."
But now, Luna and Sakari are together again.
"Although Luna was not pregnant this year, the chances become greater each year with sexual maturity - not to mention that it is good practice for our staff to work within the framework of both of the bears' natural life cycles," said the zoo's President and CEO, Norah Fletchall.
Last year, the two bears were introduced for a planned Valentine's first date. And now, a year later, the Zoo will recognize their anniversary this weekend.
Happy anniversary from 2 on Your Side, Luna and Sakari!
