AMHERST, N.Y. — Anchor Bar in Amherst is celebrating its 60th anniversary with a deal for customers.
In honor of National Chicken Wing Day, which is on July 29, Anchor Bar rewards program members can enjoy 60-cent wings announced the Amherst location.
According to the National Chicken Council, the buffalo wing traces its roots back to a fateful night in 1964. Co-owner of Anchor Bar Teressa Bellissimo cooked leftover wings in hot sauce for a late-night snack for her son. The dish was a hit and was on menus the next day.
In 1977, Buffalo Mayor Stan Makowski announced the day to be National Chicken Wing Day. Now, 47 years later, the City of Buffalo, the birthplace of chicken wings celebrates the anniversary.
The deal is for dine-in only and customers must be part of Anchor Bar rewards.
