Pie collection aims to help people savor Thanksgiving dessert

Organizers said the event will ensure that veterans, the elderly, and home-bound people will be able to have dessert after their dinner.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Jam Parkside partnered up with Pie It Forward Buffalo to collect Thanksgiving pies for the Buffalo City Mission.

Organizers said the event will ensure that veterans, the elderly, and home-bound people will be able to have dessert after their dinner.

"People love to help, but sometimes it's like, 'How do I help? I don't know, it seems like too big a thing,' " Steve Cichon, Jam Parkside director, told 2 On Your Side.

"It's really easy to go to the grocery store and buy a frozen pie, make a pie, and they'll be able to drop it off Saturday or Sunday before Thanksgiving. It's a great thing to help the community help us."

Pie collections will continue Sunday. This year's goal is to collect 6,500 pieces of pie.
