Plans call for a complete remodel, including bringing back the garden dining area in addition to the front dining room and a bar room.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — A new French restaurant is in the works for the former Rue Franklin in Buffalo.

Quenelle is under development at 341 Franklin St. by business partners Rachel Herman-Gross and Mary “Leacel” Hillenbrand, who are planning a French bistro-style restaurant in the space that has housed the Crabman seafood restaurant since 2019.

“Buffalo doesn’t have a French bistro and we thought we should remedy that situation,” said Herman-Gross, a former bar manager at Prescott’s Provisions who is leaving a job in wine sales for the venture.
