Celebrating National Sponge Candy Day in Western New York

September 21 is National Sponge Candy Day and many chocolate businesses in the WNY area are celebrating.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Saturday is National Sponge Candy Day and many Western New York chocolate-making businesses are celebrating.

According to Fowler's Chocolates website, the origins of where sponge candy came from first are unknown. It is popular not just in Buffalo but also all across the country and the world. In Australia, it's called honeycomb. In the United Kingdom, it's called cinder toffee. In the the Pacific Northwest, it's called sea foam.

Many other places have their own versions.

In celebration of the national day, Fowler's will be donating $1 for every pound of sponge candy purchased to FeedMoreWNY.

At Fowler's they make a variety of sponge candy ranging from milk chocolate, dark chocolate, mini sponge candy bites, and more.

Similarly to Fowler's, Platter's also is celebrating.

Platter's Chocolate Factory will be doing a special giveaway, hosting their annual sponge candy 5K, and will have the factory open for sponge candy connoisseurs to check out.

You can't forget about Watson's Chocolates. They have a wide variety of sponge candy to checkout including their very own bourbon flavor.

With so many sponge candy options in WNY you can't go wrong.
