Elmwood Village Farmers Market returns Saturday for its 26th season

A staple at the corner of Elmwood Avenue and Bidwell Parkway, the market will run from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays, rain or shine, through November.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — The Elmwood Village Farmers Market returned for its 26th season on Saturday.

A staple at the corner of Elmwood Avenue and Bidwell Parkway, the market will run from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays, rain or shine, through November.

"The Elmwood Village Farmers Market is the highlight of the summer for so many people thanks to the wonderful selection of local goods available, and the kind and caring group of individuals who work so hard to bring the farmers market to you each year," Therese Deutschlander, president of the Elmwood Village Association, said in a statement, announcing the return.

An Electronic Benefit Transfer system will allow people who use Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) to use their benefits at qualifying vendor stands.

There will be live music from local musicians each week at the market, which showcases 40 local vendors selling everything from fresh fruits and vegetables, to wine and craft beer, to baked goods and flowers.

"We love the sense of community that permeates through every aspect of the market, and how accessible and open it is to all. It's such a great way to start your weekend," Deutschlander said.

Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield is a sponsor of the market.

"We are one of the only producer-only farmers markets in Western New York," said Bob Weiss, president of the Elmwood Village Farmers Market and owner of Weiss Farms.

"That means when you come to the Elmwood Village Farmers Market, you have the chance to meet the people who grow your food, ask questions, and get to know more about what you will be eating. There are no resellers allowed, just the farmers and producers who made what they are selling. We take a lot of pride in that."
