GETZVILLE, N.Y. — A Western New York woman is going viral on both Tik Tok and Facebook after sharing that a meal she purchased at a Burger King located on 2515 Millersport Highway in Getzville was given to them in the drive-thru with blood in the bag.
The woman, Tiffany Lynn, wrote in a post made public to her Facebook page on Friday, July 26:
"I’m out doing running around with the kids and Tay wanted a happy meal so I stop and I usually take her food out for her but today I just gave her the bag than I hear 'mommy there’s ketchup and I didn’t want ketchup' so I take it back to see if they messed up our order and its BLOOD!!! There’s blood all over her food and inside the bag … I called Burger King because I knew if I went back there I’d end up in jail and the manager calmly goes 'ya our one guy cut his hand , if you come back I’ll refund you the money' WHAT!!! So now I'm waiting for Tays doctor to call me back to see if I have to take her to the hospital to get blood work."
The incident received the attention of many people around Western New York with over 9.6K shares on Facebook and over 6 million views on TikTok.
2 On Your Side's Claudine Ewing spoke to the mom, Tiffany Flloyd. She said the blood was also on her meal, but she never ate it.
"There was people in front of me and behind me in the drive-through it was packed. It’s a busy location. You are right off of Millersport Highway. So if my meal had that much blood on it and my daughters as well. Someone else probably had blood on their meal as well.” she said they should get tested as well.
Floyd says she is pleased with Burger King’s statement to 2 On Your Side. “ I am happy that they are deep cleaning the location obviously. They did contact me last night with their lawyer information, because I am seeking legal counsel. But we are just so emotionally distraught over this my main concern is my daughters health and letting the Public know.”
2 On Your Side also reached out to Burger King and the Erie County Department of Health who gave us the following statements:
"We were deeply upset and concerned to learn of this incident. We have been in contact with the Guest and are working with her to resolve this incident. This incident was the result of a team member in the restaurant who injured his finger, and upon noticing immediately stepped away. We closed the restaurant to retrain all the team members and hired an external company to complete a deep cleaning. We expect the restaurant to re-open Monday and are fully paying team members for any lost shifts during this temporary shut down." said a spokesperson for Burger King.
"Though we did not receive a complaint from the public regarding this incident, based on news reports our sanitarians did log a complaint and our department will be following up with a facility inspection. Our public health sanitarians follow up on all health and safety complaints received about food facilities in Erie County. Summaries of complaint-based and routine inspections are available online within a few days of an inspection at https://www.healthspace.com/erieny." said the Erie County Health Department.
