BUFFALO, N.Y. — Over 1,000 dogs protect airports nationwide, and Eci is the one keeping the Buffalo Niagara International Airport safe.
Eci is an explosive detection dog trained by the Transportation Security Administration for the Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority Police Department.
Now Eci will be featured in a calendar. This calendar will feature the TSA's explosive detection dogs, including Eci, which you can find here.
Her handler was NFTA Police Officer, Dina Bingham, in the NFTA-Metro mass transit system in the Buffalo airport.
Eci retired earlier this year and was adopted by Bingham. They made some pretty big milestones and memories together in service.
After 16 weeks of training to adapt to busy airport environments and learn how to sniff out explosive odors, over 300 canines end up completing the training and get assigned to work with TSA's law partner enforcement agencies.
Eci and Bingham have worked together to detect explosive odors and acts directed to terrorism. They have kept the public safe across the nation’s transportation systems including on buses, rail systems and in airports.
“It has been an honor to continue to serve and to do so alongside Eci,” Bingham said.
They assisted with security in Phoenix during Super Bowl week and Super LIV in Miami in 2020.
When Eci is not on duty she loves enjoying a "pup cup" and playing with her favorite red Kong toy.
