Local animal shelters attempt to help pets find forever homes

If you are unable to open your home to a pet permanently, shelters say they are always looking for volunteers and fosters.

WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. — Twenty local animal shelters came together Saturday to help pets find their forever home.

A Clear the Shelters event was held at The Dome in Williamsville. Dozens of adoptable pets were on-site with organizers hoping to address what they call a homeless pet crisis.

Tina Chaudhry, president of WNY Furtastic, talked with 2 On Your Side about the significance of the event.

"Adoption is definitely the kindest option, I want to say 350,000 dogs and cats were killed in shelters in 2023, simply because there wasn't space for them. Not because they weren't good, or there was something wrong with them, simply because they just didn't have a safe space to call home, so adoption is definitely the way to go."
