An adult bald eagle was found in distress 50 feet up a tree at Frank Lloyd Wright’s Graycliff in the hamlet of Derby.

DERBY, N.Y. — Known for its design, Frank Lloyd Wright’s Graycliff estate attracts tourists from across the world.

It was an injured bald eagle, however, that recently lured New York State Department of Environmental Conservation officials to the Old Shore Road property in Derby.

The DEC was called on July 25 concerning an adult bald eagle in distress, up 50 feet in a tree. A lieutenant who responded said the eagle was "barely able to lift its head and with wings spread and drooping over branches," the DEC recently said in a statement.

North Evans, Highland, and Angola firefighters helped remove the eagle from the tree. The bird was turned over to a wildlife rehabilitator from Messinger Woods Wildlife Care and Education Center, which is now providing treatment.
