'Dog jailbreak' at Niagara SPCA leads to field trip for 6-year-old Bugsy

"The real crime here: not an attempted jailbreak, but almost 3 million views and not a single meet and greet for Bugsy," the Niagara SPCA said.

NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. — An innocent "dog jailbreak" led to a 3 million views on the Niagara SPCA Facebook page and a field trip and a Niagara County Sheriff's deputy.

But 6-year-old Bugsy is still looking for a forever home. A video posted Wednesday shows Bugsy prancing up and down the kennel, hoping that other dogs could come out to play. A mechanical failure allowed for the "jailbreak," and she was quickly spotted, corralled, and secured once again in the kennel.

"The real crime here: not an attempted jailbreak, but almost 3 million views and not a single meet and greet for Bugsy," the SPCA said

That's where the Niagara County Sheriff's Office stepped in, with a deputy taking Bugsy on a field trip. She was treated to a plain cheeseburger at Burger King, then taken to Blackwinds Pet Supplies, where Bugsy was allowed to pick out any toy she wanted.

Local photographer Jessica Popovich tagged along to document Bugsy's day away from the kennel on Thursday.

"We have no doubt Bugsy had the time of her life on Thursday," Niagara SPCA said Saturday in a social media post. "And she deserves a lifetime of these moments. Deputy Hall wanted to help make that a reality by playing along in this adorably sweet field trip, complete with a photo shoot to help promote her adoption."

Bugsy, a medium-sized dog, is described by the SPCA as "very obviously loyal and obedient, dog-friendly, people friendly. Just no kitties for this girl."
