Bubbles the turtle returns to the wild following recovery from serious injuries

Bubbles was recently released at a secluded pond next to more than 60 acres of federal wetlands, close to where she was found.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — A Western New York turtle is proving that she's got a tough shell.

Back in June, 2 On Your Side introduced you to Bubbles, a turtle that was hit by a car in Orchard Park, then rescued by a Good Samaritan. Bubbles is finally back home, following months of treatment.

WNY Raptor and Wildlife Care shared online that Bubbles was released at a secluded pond next to more than 60 acres of federal wetlands. The location is close to where she was found, but also far enough away from the road.

"She's eating a ton. So they eat a lot of gross things. Earth worms. Mice from our raptors and things that we feed," Bernadette Clabeaux, director of WNY Raptor, told 2 On Your Side back in June.

Clabeaux said the injuries to Bubbles were serious.

"Her shell was severely damaged. I think it was three different spots. The vet had to actually do suturing on the skin, close up an area where the lung was exposed, so the selum was kind of open, and then really harness or keep the shell closed to let it heal, and it's healing really nicely," Clabeaux said.
