Large boa constrictor rescued from Erie County home

Wildlife officials didn't immediately know the species of snake but eventually identified it as a boa constrictor.

LACKAWANNA, N.Y. — A large boa constrictor recently had plenty of room to slither around a vacant house in Lackawanna.

That is, until someone called the Lackawanna Police Department, asking for help once they crossed the large snake.

A call was soon made to the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, which dispatched an officer to the vacant home. They didn't immediately know the species of snake, but eventually identified it as a boa constrictor.

The environmental conservation took possession of the snake and took it to a hospital for evaluation.

"A reptile rescue group will eventually find the boa constrictor a new home," the DEC said in a statement.
