500 sets of pajamas given to hospitalized children in Buffalo

Cancer survivor Nya Ricks collects pajamas every year to donate to Oishei Children's Hospital and Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — A special delivery was made at Oishei Children's Hospital.

A few months back, 2 On Your Side's Melissa Holmes featured cancer survivor Nia Ricks on her Great Kids series.

Nya collects pajamas every year to donate to Oishei Children's Hospital and Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center, and with the help of her dance teacher starting a collection, she collected 500 sets this year.

Thursday afternoon, all those pajamas arrived at the hospital, where they will help brighten the days and nights of a lot of kids there.

"I think it'll make them feel more comfortable because they just want to feel normal, because as a kid with cancer, you don't want to feel like you're the cancer kid," Nya said. "You want to feel like a regular kid. So I feel like just wearing pajamas is like, it's like what other people would do at their houses, so it just makes them feel normal."

Nya is not just an accomplished dancer, but she's an actress too. She received callbacks and interest from two dozen agents at the International Modeling and Talent Association competition in July.

"She's every teacher's dream student," said Maris Battaglia, the director and founder of American Academy of Ballet. "It's not just her natural talent, a lot of kids have natural talent. It's her attitude in the classroom, her enthusiasm. She's just a joy."
